Privacy policy

Who we are

This website (ustoschengen.com) is operated by an individual ("we", "us", "our"). We provide free travel guidance for US citizens visiting the Schengen Area. Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@ustoschengen.com.

What data we collect

Analytics (anonymous). We run our own lightweight analytics system — no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no third-party trackers. When you visit a page, we log:

  • The URL path you visited (e.g. /calculator)
  • The HTTP referrer (where you came from), if your browser sends it
  • Your browser User-Agent string (browser type + OS)
  • The approximate time of the visit

We do not store your IP address, set third-party cookies, fingerprint your browser, or build a profile tied to you personally.

Interaction events. When you use certain features (e.g. the 90/180 calculator), we record an anonymous event name and the page path. No personal information or travel dates are included — all calculator math runs entirely in your browser.

Cookies and local storage

This site does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies. If you log in with a license key (a legacy feature, currently not in active use), we set a single session cookie that is removed when you close your browser or sign out. We may also use your browser's localStorage to save itinerary data you enter — this data stays in your browser and is never sent to our servers without an active session.

How we use data

  • To understand which pages and tools are most useful
  • To identify and fix broken pages or links
  • To measure the overall reach of the site

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with anyone except as required by law.

Data storage and retention

Analytics data is stored in a hosted database (Turso, which runs on AWS infrastructure in the US West region). We retain page-view logs for up to 12 months and then delete them. We do not retain any personally identifiable information beyond what is described above.

Your rights

Because we do not link analytics data to identifiable individuals, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we hold data about you (e.g. a session email from a previous license-key login), email us at privacy@ustoschengen.com and we will delete it within 30 days.

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. Contact us at the email above to exercise any of these rights.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party infrastructure. Each has its own privacy policy:

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
